question 7 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the main task?

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the main task?

At the start of the course I had very little knowledge and experience of how to use a camera and the things you can do with a camera, like the camera angles you can use. I had next to no knowledge on editing either. I didn’t know how to use diegetic and non-diegetic sound.

Between the times of the prelim task to the main task I feel my media knowledge has increased a lot, I now know how to make different camera angles effective, and use the sound and lighting to our advantage, also I used the editing that we learnt.

I was very confident with using different camera angles when we were filming our media product because of what we learnt in class and the experience I got from the prelim. I am a lot more confident when deciding where to film in regards to the lighting or the sound. I have more knowledge on this because of the prelim task but also because of the ability to use cameras when we wanted so I could gain more experience with that.

I also realised how much editing comes in to play with a media product and how mis-en-scene plays a massive role in creating a sucsessful media product. And how you don’t realise how much stereotypes are represented in the media with the mis-en-scene. Editing also helps a media product become sucsessful because it helps to make the product what you want and make sure its how you pictured it before you started the task.

I also learned some skills that aren’t necessarily related to the media studies course, like how to work well in a team, how important it is to assign roles and give jobs to people so the work load does not overflow for the team, I learnt that there will be constant disagreements and that they are unavoidable but that it takes a good team to recover from an argument.
